My paper with Raghu Garud entitled “Metatheoretical Perspectives on Sustainability Journeys: Evolutionary, Relational and Durational” is now available on the Research Policy Articles in Press website. Earlier drafts of the paper were top 10 downloads at SSRN in September 2011, October 2011 and April 2012.
The paper examines what we term evolutionary, relational and durational perspectives on sustainability journeys. Each perspective emphasizes different facets of sustainability – shifts in selection environments, reconfigurations of emergent networks, and intertemporal comparisons and contrasts. We conclude the paper by discussing implications for sustainability policy, strategy and research.
